All the Women who INDEPENDENT!!!

Guysssssssss!! So much has been going on this month I can hardly keep my head on straight! The hugest thing that’s happened to me so far is that after months of praying and hoping I’d get a chance — I finally got  a position as Contributing Editor for WEEN (Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network)!

What the heck is WEEN you may ask?!?

Well, WEEN is a network of women in the entertainment industry (with a focus on hip hop & minority culture) who want to change the negative perceptions of industry that may be floating around. “All women have beef” – “She’s only in that position because she hoed around” – “She’s fake and doesn’t share her success with other” — you know the same old, same old. Founded by 4 amazing women in entertainment, Valeisha Butterfield-Jones, Sabrina Thompson, Lauren Lake, & Kristi Henderson (google them, seriously) who wanted to highlight the good and encourage empowerment rather than not.

So how does that include you Joc!? You’re not a singer or anything!

Though I may not be directly “IN” the entertainment industry, with this new position I’ve been blessed with, I get to interview and flex my writing chops by publishing weekly articles and pieces. In the months to come I’ll be able to interview hard working women such as Rocsi Diaz, Letoya Luckett, Angela Yee, Debra Lee…not to mention that I’ve already had to outrageous pleasure of putting out pieces on the founders of WEEN — which speaks volumes alone.

Where do I check out your work Joc and how often can I see it?

Each week at http://www.weenonline.org/one of my articles will be posted! It’s a different woman every week so check back each Monday! I also contribute by writing a “Hot Topic” piece every Thursday — pretty awesome if I may say so myself!

What does this mean for your photography?

Photography is my heart so there is NO way the photography is going to stop! I may have to do some rearranging as far as my booking, but my camera will always be in my hand!

Go and catch up on what you’ve missed so far!

Peace & Photos,

-Joc

[Insert Inspiration]

Hey guys! I’ve been VERY VERY busy with the [surprise news] I’ve promised to tell you about later on, but today I just wanted to share some encouragement with you all! ❤  If you’ve never booked a session with me, you should know that I vew EVERYTHING through my [beauty shades]. Everyone and every thing is beautiful in it’s own way…even if you have to search for it. When I photograph, I try to highlight my clients and make them feel beautiful in the skin they’ve been blessed with. This leads me into my post….

I’ve known about and have followed Nick’s story for over a year now & it NEVER gets old! His testimony helped me in what I consider to be one of the worst times in my life. So next time you’re facing something bad, don’t as WHY ME…ask HELP ME Lord to endure so I can help someone else.

Peace & Photos,
 ♥ – Joc

We All [Choose]…

It feels like it’s been FOREVER and 26 days since I’ve posted!

Life has been very busy in these past few weeks, but still totally awesome! I’m booking my first few gigs of the new year and last week I received an email that I’ve been waiting several months for….but I’ll tell you guys about that in detail later! =)

In other news, I made my first photo delivery of 2013 this past weekend (sneak a peek below) which got me thinking of love and family. Love is SO beautiful and if you let it…it will find you and make you one of the happiest people in existence. But love doesn’t just happen. People don’t simply ‘fall’ in love. You don’t love your friends &  family out of the blue — we all CHOOSE to love. That’s what makes it so amazing!!! Think about it, if we were FORCED to ‘love’ someone; all the fun and meaning would be sucked right out of the experience! Photographing these clients and seeing how they were truly a loving family made me that much more honored to be able to capture that feeling on camera.

Last year, my awesome friend Gregory Cox released his EP “The Last Start” — one in which I had the pleasure of shooting the art work for — and one of my favorite songs on the album is titled “Choose”. It’s a lightly quirky, but funky record that speaks on love in the very same way I witnessed it in my client’s shoot. We all CHOOSE to love. ❤ Check it out and take this song into your week — CHOOSE to love.
